Remember how the press went all bunched panties because Democrats stuffed billion-dollar requirements on manufacturers for providing information on minerals in their products into a financial bill (Dodd-Frank)?
A little-noticed provision in the law requires manufacturers prove the metals they use in their products are not mined by rebels in Congo and neighboring African countries. Makers of cell phones, computers and consumer electronics, for example, must trace the origin of so-called conflict minerals back through their supply chains, and then report their findings to the SEC.Ohhhh...riiiiiight. *crickets*
The National Association of Manufacturers has complained to the SEC that complying with this Dodd-Frank rule could cost producers as much as $16 billion a year, making products sold by Target, Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Lowe's and other retailers more expensive.
